This is another reason why I believe in Cornerstone and the work we do. It's 'walking the walk' versus 'talking the talk'…So thanks. This is a way of standing tall and doing what's right.

What is Always Learning@Home?

Members of our Working Parents CRG consistently share that managing the demanding task of providing academic support while simultaneously meeting work obligations is extremely taxing. We are acutely aware that education is currently unpredictable and meeting the academic needs of students learning from home is challenging.

For this reason, Cornerstone is partnering with our client, Sylvan Learning, on a U.S. pilot program to provide virtual one-on-one academic tutoring for students in grades K-12, with certified tutors focused on teaching English and Math. We have negotiated a discounted rate so that this opportunity can be affordable for everyone. On top of the discounted rate, Cornerstone will partially subsidize the cost. There are no requirements to purchase a minimum number of hours. This program is called Always Learning@Home.

What benefits does Sylvan Learning offer?

• Sylvan is a longstanding Cornerstone client who shares our commitment to learning. They have been tutoring children in all grades for over 40 years. Sylvan tutors are vetted certified teachers who maintain their credentials as required by their state

• Sylvan will take time during the on-boarding process to understand each child’s needs and personality so they can make a great match from the start. However, if a different personality or teaching style is needed, parents can request a new tutor and Sylvan will find a different tutor for the next session. There is no limit to how many times a family can change tutors.

How can Cornerstars participate?

  • Cornerstar parents interested in the program will need to complete this registration form. Our partner, Sylvan Learning, will contact you within two business days to provide onboarding support and match your child with an expert tutor based on your child’s needs.
  • Tutoring sessions will be hosted via Zoom and scheduled based on the availability of the student and the tutor.
  • Cost is a discounted rate of $39/hour (a 20% discount). Cornerstars will pay Sylvan directly for the tutoring services they schedule.
  • During the pilot, Cornerstone will subsidize 50% of the discounted tutoring cost for up to 10 hours per employee. This subsidy will be capped at 3500 hours in total at which point Cornerstars will be responsible for covering the full discounted hourly rate.
  • For reimbursement, Sylvan Learning invoices should be submitted via Concur noting the expense type as “Tutoring Subsidy Program.” Please include the total invoice from Sylvan, noting the total amount you have paid out of pocket; you may request reimbursement for 50% of the expenses paid up to 10 hours, with the total not to exceed $195.

(The formula: 10 hours @ $39 per hour – 50% subsidy = $195 max subsidy per employee)

  • This program will be piloted in the U.S. first and will be evaluated for global expansion.
  • Parents can register any time until August 31, 2021.

Are there plans to expand this tutoring service?

  • As a company, we recognize that the challenge working parents face with school-aged children is not unique to our U.S. employees or to just our employees. While this pilot is for U.S. full-time and part-time employees, we are also hoping to partner with a small group of clients to help them run similar pilots for their US employees. If all goes well, we plan to make this program available to all global Cornerstars and Cornerstone customers. We are excited to pilot a program that both supports our employees and advances our mission to educate the world.

  • In addition to educating our own children, we also recognize there is a lack of adequate education in many parts of the world, including in the U.S. Therefore, as part of this program and based on the overall volume of hours purchased by Cornerstone and our clients, Sylvan has agreed to donate free tutoring support to families in need. Every hour purchased goes towards supporting the academic tutoring of low-income students in underserved communities through Cornerstone Foundation partners like the Boys and Girls Club.
